Questions
What an embarrassment we’ve made ourselves. How absolutely off the rails we’ve gone. A month after the election, before Donald Trump even takes office for the second time, we are facing a constant stream of foreshadowing just how inept, cruel, and blustering this administration will be. A steady drumbeat of proposed nominations of conspiracy theorists, rapists, and Christian nationalists (redundant?) to promises of swift implementation of policies designed to oppress, maim, or banish anyone deemed “other.” Is this what we deserve? Do we deserve what’s to come over the next years?
How can I be or feel American, as so many of my countrymen have willingly rewarded the man who led an anti-democratic coup attempt with the very office he tried to retain through force?
What does being American mean?
What has it ever meant?
What can it mean?
